Four Columbus players were named to the all-conference team by the WPSL on Friday. Madison Costner, Alivia Milesky, and Micaela Powers all made the all-conference team for the first time, and club captain Ashley Gogolin was named to the team for the second year in a row.
Gogolin – a Wright State University alumna – led the Eagles’ midfield with a pair of goals in WPSL play. She also added a stunning goal in the club’s 5-0 preseason victory over Otterbein University. She was named the Columbus captain by head coach Matt Ogden in early 2019.
In Powers’s second season as an Eagle, the University of Wisconsin alumna scored twice and was the club’s main free-kick taker. She scored from a free kick against Cleveland in June and from the penalty spot against Detroit just a few weeks prior.
Milesky and Costner – two players who made their Columbus debuts in 2019 – became regular first-team starters for Ogden’s Eagles. Costner’s strong forward play and three goals were crucial to the attacking style that Eagles liked to play this season. Costner graduated from Central Michigan University in 2018, and her goal against Motor City this summer helped the Eagles secure a point against the eventual division and region champions.
Milesky – an Ohio University senior – led the Eagles with four goals scored in 2019, and her strength in midfield helped Gogolin, Kelly DeNiro, and her teammates link play up the field. Both Costner and Milesky were named to the all-conference team for the first time.
The league will announce its social media awards next week – the Eagles were named “Social Media Team of the Year” in 2018.
The 2020 Eagles season gets started in springtime next year, with the club’s preseason and WPSL schedule being announced early in 2020. Season memberships are on sale now for the club’s seventh league season, and full-season plans start as low as $40.
