Eagles Win 9-0 in Preseason Opener

The preseason couldn’t have started much better for Columbus Eagles FC. Columbus roared out of the gates against Ohio Wesleyan University in Saturday’s preseason opener and rolled to a 9-0 win.

The Eagles led 2-0 at halftime and then hit full stride in the second half. The team’s seven goals after the break is a club record for a half. Larissa Najjar, Dani Gunderson, Larissa Najjar, Rachel MacLeod, and Eryn Weber were among the scorers for the Eagles, which stay unbeaten in preseason matches dating back to 2016. New Eagles like Micaela Peters – an alumna of the University of Wisconsin – shined brightly in the big win for Columbus.

Nine goals is also a new club record for goals scored in a single match in club history.

Goalkeeper Jenna Villacres – the youngest player on the Columbus roster – started the match and was strong throughout. Villacres and Madi Moore earned a joint clean sheet for the Eagles.

Columbus continues its preseason this Saturday (April 14) against Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Otterbein University’s Memorial Stadium. Single-match tickets are $10 at the match gate and online.

The club kicks off its 2018 WPSL season on May 12 with a home match against AAFC Lumberjills (Ann Arbor). Season memberships are still on sale and are the best way to watch the Eagles play all season long. Individual memberships are $25 (for the whole season!) and family packages are $75.
